Client B, one of the UK’s leading outdoor clothing brands, has seen a substantial growth in its product range and supplier base over the last 4 years.
Client B has moved from being a traditional manufacturer of high quality, specialised outdoor clothing with UK based production, to being a global player with supply chains spanning Europe, Asia and Australia. In addition the customer base has become more international and the product mix now encompasses outdoor clothing, footwear, bags, knitwear, tailored garments, accessories and perfumes.
Recognising that Supply Chain practices which were relevant to a compact range of clothing produced in the UK were no longer adequate to control what has become a truly global business the management team sought to implement up to the minute supply chain processes that were capable of supporting the current and future growth of the company.
Client B asked DSBC to help in the re-structuring of the Supply Chain in order to provide proper controls over design & development, planning, purchasing and distribution.
DSBC reviewed the entire process from design to distribution and, using advanced process mapping techniques together with in-depth interviews with all stakeholders, formulated a method of working which has delivered , measurable improvements in the working practices of the Supply Chain.
DSBC has transformed Client B’s paper driven supply chain and logistics systems into efficient and integrated processes which are supported by appropriate IT solutions.
The pre-production activities are now supported by a ‘best of breed’ Product Lifecycle Management solution which enables the Design and Product Development teams to capture and monitor all technical data in one place.
DSBC has worked with the Supply Chain managers and the IT team to develop the critical path capabilities of this software and Client B is now able to track, control and report on the progress of each season’s collection with ease and accuracy.
DSBC has instigated a system of version approval which ensures that specifications for manufactured and fully factored product is understood and agreed to by all parties prior to commencement of production.
DSBC has ensured that systems are now in place that enable the exchange of accurate and timely information both internally and externally, thus enabling proper control over the supply chain.
Client B is now able to plan and control the issue of purchase orders for raw materials and manufacturing capacity to ensure that the correct goods are available to the distribution warehouse in good time to meet customer orders.
DSBC continue to assist Client B in improving their Supply Chain processes as well as providing advice and guidance in the specification and selection of appropriate IT solutions.
